We acknowledge that we live, work, and gather on the traditional and treaty territory of the Anishinaabek peoples — including the Ojibway, Odawa, and Pottawatomi — as well as the Haudenosaunee and Wendat peoples, under the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850 and, in parts, the Williams Treaty of 1923.

In what is colonially known as West Parry Sound, we recognize the territories and health autonomy of Dokis, Henvey Inlet, Magnetawan, Shawanaga, Wasauksing, Moose Deer Point, and Wahta First Nations, along with the other First Nation, Métis, and Inuit community members who contribute to the strength and vibrancy of this region.

Indigenous peoples have lived here since time immemorial, and their relationships with the land and water continue today. We also recognize the ongoing impacts of colonization, including within health systems.

As the West Parry Sound Ontario Health Team, we are committed to working in partnership with Indigenous communities to support culturally safe care, uphold health sovereignty, and advance equitable, community-led healthcare transformation.
